Over It!

The title says it all.

I'm 39 weeks (and 5 days) pregnant. I'm feeling huge, tired, and super uncomfortable. I'm currently bouncing on my exercise ball to try and get things moving. Baby Mabel can come any time now, and I'm hoping it's sooner rather than later!

One good thing is that Paul is now working from home until the baby comes, and then he'll be able to take 5 days vacation so we can both spend time with our little baby girl. Then, we'll see what happens! Ideally I'd want him home for a while to spend time adjusting to life as a parent, and for helping me while I recover from giving birth. It's been nice having him home so far. 😊

We're pretty much all settled and organized in the current apartment. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but it's a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 1 closet... in an older home split into 2 apartments. We have the main floor. The bedroom is a small square room with the only closet that barely fits our queen size bed and our clothes, let alone the bassinet. We have a large living/dining room that is kind of split into 2 with a large doorway. One side is a regular living room space, while the other side is the office and baby's room squished into one (and quickly running out of storage for baby stuff). I have no complaints about the kitchen other than the hole in the ceiling, which I will update further down in this post. We also technically have sole use (and responsibility) of the basement, backyard, and driveway, however, we allow the other tenants to go into the basement for laundry and we share the yard.

Unfortunately, the other tenants have to go through our apartment to get to the basement, and we don't really have a set laundry schedule in place, so there have been times where I've needed to to laundry while they were already using the machines. The only rule we put in place is the cut off time of 10 pm. My husband (bless his heart) told them that if we left anything in either machine when they go to use it that they can put it in the spare laundry basket. They've done this a few times, but the last time this was done was with the baby's clothes and I cried/freaked out because I didn't like the thought of someone else touching my kid's stuff! LOL! It was probably the pregnancy hormones, but I've learned how protective I am because of it.

It's definitely not the most ideal place to live with a new baby, a dog, 2 cats, plus a hedgehog, but we have to make it work for now! Hubby says we'll be able to move in 1-2 years, but I don't know how that will work when the baby is mobile in less time than that. 😐

Update on the kitchen ceiling:

There is still an open hole.
The hole is directly connected below the upstairs neighbours' bathroom.
Small pieces and dust still sometimes fall onto the stove.
I can hear clearly when they shower or flush the toilet.
It is gross.
No idea when it will be fixed.

The only good thing is that it doesn't leak dirty, used bath water anymore.

So, there you have it.
My current situation in a nutshell.
I'm over it.

A Busy Schedule

Today I am 27 weeks pregnant, and this month has been off to a rough start.

Paul and I had to deal with a leaking kitchen ceiling this week. Our new upstairs neighbours like to take a lot of showers and baths, and because of that our ceiling started raining down used bathwater onto our stove. I'm very glad that I wasn't cooking anything when it was happening!

I have found that our landlord is very 'hands off' in this situation, meaning it took 2 days for him to come with a plumber to take a look at it, and then 2 more days for it to actually get 'fixed'. The landlord hasn't even come to check out the work! My dad had to do the work (don't worry, he's a retired plumber) because the plumber that my landlord hired was MIA when it was time to come back to fix the leak. The leak still isn't 100% fixed either, since it still drips a little. There is also a hole in the ceiling above the stove that leaves us with fallen plaster bits on the stove top every so often.

We are still waiting for our landlord to come back with some sort of worker to fix the hole in the ceiling. It's been a very eventful first few weeks of moving to the main floor of this house, and I hope it calms down by the time baby Mabel is born.

Anyways, there is better news!

I am 27 weeks pregnant today. Mabel is a healthy and active little baby. She has been kicking me very low in my tummy for the past week or so, and it's been uncomfortable to say the least. I'm glad to know she is doing well though! I've also been craving fried chicken a lot. I'm not sure what that means, but I've been eating it and it's delicious.

Today, we are also going to IKEA to buy a new couch! We've been talking about replacing our old couch for a few months now, and today we are finally doing it. Our old couch was a faux leather material that our cat started using as a scratching post (even though she already has 2 of her own). She even scratched it so much that she opened up both sides and was able to climb inside of the couch! I had to use duct tape to seal the holes because I didn't want the kitty to use it as a litter box or something like that. So, we're getting a new couch. Fabric this time because it's easier to take care of. If kitty puts a few claw marks on the new couch, we can use a fabric shaver to smooth it out and make it look like new.

That's pretty much everything that's been going on with us.
Lots going on, and lots of things to do.

91 days to go until we meet our baby girl!

Pregnancy and Life update

Today, I'm 24 weeks and 6 days pregnant.

A few days ago, Paul and I moved into the main floor apartment of the house we were living in. We have more space, but it's definitely not ideal for a baby. It's only a 1 bedroom apartment, so I hope it will work out until we're able to get a bigger place.

Then, on Monday, we took Paul's mom to the airport. She's going to Ukraine to help teach English for at least a year. She's coming back for Christmas though, so she'll get to meet the baby then.

So far, being pregnant has been a struggle. Other mom's have told me that they loved being pregnant and feeling their baby kick and I honestly don't feel that way. It's amazing that I'm able to grow a human, don't get me wrong, but I'm not enjoying my pregnancy at all. I am, however, enjoying shopping for baby stuff and getting our house ready for her to be born.

Paul is basically letting me decorate and organize the way I want, so I'm pretty excited about that! Bending is difficult for me now LOL, so I'm getting his help for all the heavy lifting and stuff like that.

Also, I just bought my first pair of maternity jeans! Paul and I scored some nice ones from Value Village.

Anyways, that's all that I can think of for now. Thanks for reading! More updates to come soon.

Starting a Family

I'm pregnant!

I mentioned in my last post that I had exciting news to share, and here it is!

The midwife estimates that I'm due around the middle of November 2017. Paul and I are excited (and freaking out) about becoming parents.

Honestly, I've always wanted at least 2-3 kids, but I'm not sure if I'll want to have more than one now that I'm actually pregnant. I'm sure that my feelings might change, but right now I'm pretty set on having just a singular child LOL.

Right now I'm just about 18 weeks pregnant - that's the 5 month mark! Pregnancy has not been kind to me. The first 3 months of this pregnancy, I was extremely tired, sore, and feeling sick all the time. I'm so thankful that the sickness has passed, and now I"m at a steady pace of feeling a little tired. It's getting increasingly more difficult to move around with baby H growing more and more. I haven't really felt any dramatic movement yet. I think I've felt some very light fluttering sensations, but it's hard to tell if it's the baby or just my regular tummy rumbles.

Also, most of my clothes are now too tight! I've already bought some more comfortable things, but I definitely will need more summer clothes. Leggings just aren't cutting it anymore!

Thanks for reading.
More updates to come!

Changes

I have some exciting news coming soon! I'll be sharing that in a week or two.

Yesterday, hubby went back to work in Toronto after working from home while he was finishing school. I'm so proud of him because he was offered a more permanent job with the bank that he works at. He was so worried that he wouldn't get an offer. This new job means more money and more stability for us, so I'm happy about that. He starts working in the new position on May 1st, but he took the opportunity to work for 3 days this week in the office to finish up his previous contract.

I, on the other hand, haven't had as much luck in the employment department. I also haven't really been looking/applying so it's not a big deal. I'm completely fine with staying home for now, and Paul is cool with it too.

Other than that, my life is pretty great. More on that later when I share my news!
